The prequel to Shark Week: The Movie

An amateur ninja, saturated with film-inspired dreams of getting Vegased at full throttle, arrives at his casino hotel room to discover that his uninvited roommate is a flying shark, who is also a stalker.

Set to the music of "Cool in Progress"

To continue our island discussion

I saw this in the news and thought it could be worked in-

http://news.yahoo.com/satellite-photo-shows-island-rising-earths-red-sea-170703840.html

Maybe something falls from the sky, causes a volcano to grow and erupt, and the sulfur is extra poisonous, causing the people around to get infected.

I don't think I like zombies- I like ghost pirates, but I just don't want them to be dead. Maybe the disease just makes you turn into a pirate. And possibly also see-through for the cool CG effect.

Also, I may have typed this before somewhere else but-
Sandland
Sandland 2: The Beach Island

Of course, there already is an anime called Sand Land (actually Sandy Randy, oh no, Sando Rando)

So maybe Beachland, or maybe there's too many lands, so Sand Island or Beach Island, and Beach Island 2: They have to go to Trash Island instead

Hitchcock

Been watching some twilight zone marathons lately, great hooks in some of those, that guy knew a story twist like no one else. I think we would be good at mini movies. Here's one, a man's wife is murdered by a man with a face tattoo. Driven by revenge, he begins a search to find the killer, eventually finding him and killing him in a back alley. His relief is short when he discovers the next day that the defining face tattoo which he thought defined the killer, is a modern day trend and everyone on the street has one. He has killed an innocent man! Just then, the spouse of the murdered man sneaks from the shadows and stabs him in the back.

The End

ok so maybe they need a little work

BeerSexCollege

How popular would BeerSex College be? man, everyone would want to go there. I know I would. Maybe it could be a college for people of any age. A dropout university, and our mascot would be Kanye, the first proud dropout (keeping kids in the schools). I think it's amazing that the colleges are just addressing kids illegally using ritalin to study. Kind of like the NFL just realizing about concussions or Penn State just learning about about the child rape. They know, they're just waiting until they HAVE to deal with it. Ritalin makes better students, just at the expense of the them going crazy with anxiety. I think 99% of people hated school at some point from the ages of 6-22. We are the 99%. or is that slogan already taken for something else?

This is my jam

http://www.visitnorway.com/en/Games-and-more/Wingsuit-Video/

Best action scene of the year is either the Wingsuits in Transformers or Tom Cruise on the Burj- this makes me want to give it to the wingsuits, but I felt the Burj more, and that hasn't happened in a while.

All of this stuff brings me back to the opening chase in Casino Royale.

Superhero movies have ruined action scenes.

This guy is either hilarious or scary. Or hilariously scary.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06hPC8-rs5k

Tebow! I'm gonna go ahead and continue my streak or ruining big games for my teams by making bogus claims beforehand. I fully expect the patriots to destroy the Denver Broncos, and how funny is Tebow singing religious songs to himself! Now I understand amazing grace or something classic like that, but religious pop songs and various bible verses? Doesn't really pump me up. Makes me slightly uncomfortable because he's not a very good singer. You really have to support your cause if you suck at singing and you sing about it. I take that back by the way, amazing grace would be just as hilarious to hear at the line of scrimmage. It might be kinda racist of me, but I don't think this would be as lame if it was a black guy singing bible phrases. I think Ray Lewis does that, and it's way more scary and intimidating.

Should we have missed Kanye's latest concert?

The show was so good that it made Kanye apologize to the audience as they exited the stage.

"Sorry if this is your first concert. It's all downhill from here," he said.

I don't really understand why we need to hear niggas in paris 9 times in a row. The radio does that and it just seems to really make you never want to hear a song again.

Random Movie Idea of the day

I was going through and old notebook and found this gem in my drunk handwriting.

To Be Continued

All this from a guy who's favorite movie is Bad Boys 2?
In my mind, I had hoped that movies now a days were a lot like video games. You're first movie in a series is basically a test run. You throw out a concept, see if people respond, and if they do you get a bigger budget to do it right in the sequel. What I don't understand is why so many flops get sequels. I thought everyone hated the Expendables.

Some of those on the list are up for debate as sequels. Just because you remaster a movie in 3d doesn't make it a new movie. I understand the Disney movies coming out for a new generation to see in theatres. I don't understand Star Wars Episode 1 coming back out. Is there really a group of kids that are dissapointed they missed it in theaters? I had just the opposite feeling.

You can't tell me you won't see the new Batman. or the Hobbit. That would be a good date for Alisha, she's read all the Lord of the Rings books, which takes some serious effort. I don't even think I made it through the last one, too many elfish names like LorgenNornaDoone.

Also, seeing as the only other movies on the high grossing list are the smurfs and Rio, I think I'll play it safe and go see another Spiderman before venturing out into the world of Adam Sandler based comedies. People do fear change, and sometimes thats not a bad thing. I'm not saying we needed another American Pie, but it's gotta be better than whatever else Will Ferrell is scheming up right now.

Sequels planned for 2012

And I'm making a stand. According to Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_in_film, this is a list of all the sequels/remakes that are coming out in 2012. Please stand with me, and promise to watch as few of them as possible. None would be best, but lets keep it under 5.

I created this list after witnessing the top grossing movies of 2011, and realizing that I didn't really like any of them. And look how many are sequels....

oh yeah

and a sandwich is not too bad, I once woke up at the house across the street with a huge wad of gum completely lodged in my happy trail, and i hadn't been chewing gum when i went to bed.

Thoughts on Luke's Bon Ivers-like Forray into the Woods

He's loooossst in the wooooodsss....

So is Luke too famous? Is that why he has to disappear to nature? Or is he just like a regular guy who has had enough of the monotony, enough of the organized hoarding that is everyday life? Maybe show a few shots of him doing dishes, folding laundry, paying his taxes, shit that just makes a regular guy want to run screaming into the woods.

I like the idea of him trading down in a reverse paperclip kinda way. giving his flat screen tv to a bum for half a sandwich (turkey sandwich, with south african spices maybe? ps what are south african spices?)

I also like the idea of him coming out of the woods into san fran, but he should be changed in some way when he does. Maybe he's wearing like a cave man outfit? Space suit? Something to really set him apart from the people on the street, like he's come out of the woods a changed man. Even though he hasn't found what he's looking for yet, he's got a different VIEW of them now that he's gone through his woods transformation.

It's the little things

Imagine my surprise when I woke up with a flattened, half-eaten turkey sandwich stuck to my belly this morning.

What really impressed me was that I had taken the time to properly season the sandwich with some classy South African spices.

Bird's Eye View Update

Opening with dollar floating in a swimming pool, then we see it's on a hook. Luke is also in the pool- he stares at his money, his house, his girl (who is holding the fishing pole) gets out of the pool, and walks into the woods, shedding his clothing, his possessions.

While walking in the woods, we see flashbacks to how Luke got here. Luke coming to the big city, Luke in interviews, Luke bustling around, Luke making money, buying a house. These scenes are cut against Luke wandering through the woods, trying to get deeper and deeper, further from the things he used to hold dear.

Unfortunately, he keeps finding things in the woods that remind him of civilization, and hes trudges on, frustrated. He always has a possession with him, which he keeps trading down. The opposite of the paperclip story.

The finale of the story is presented when Luke keeps pushing through the woods, until he has pushed so far he comes out the other side, standing on a hillside, staring at San Francisco. He straightens up his tie, cleans his hair, and approaches the city to start over again.

Bird's Eye View Video Outline

From an email sent to my buddy Malcolm, who will be playing Luke in the video

Please offer any all criticism and additions/subtractions/opinions

I really want this to be good. Water outline coming next

Overall story of the project- Luke has decided to forsake that which other hold valuable and travel into the wilderness. Inspired by "Into the Wild," Luke is attempting to obtain a better Bird's Eye View of the world, to find what is most important, and necessary, for true success and happiness.

Of course, Luke's first thought is to escape civilization, to regress to a simpler way of life. The problem with this is that the world is so overdeveloped, that he has to keep going further and further into the woods to find less and less signs of cilivilization. Whether it's old roads, airplanes, candy wrappers, power lines, etc. each example of society drives him further into the woods, until he has gone so far into the woods that Luke comes back out the other side, right into San Francisco. It is here that Luke has come full circle, and has a new appreciation for modern life, steel, and knows that to be human is to constantly strive for better, to create, to build. It can be done with respect for the past, for nature, for our history.

We fear change, but it is important, and integral, to our evolution to keep growing better, more efficient.

2, 3, 4
CUT TO:
-Back of Luke's head, bobbing slowly in the pool, almost to the beat, staring at house.
(I liked your idea of the album cover homage a lot, and I thought a great way to take it a step further would be to show the "back cover" of the album, i.e. what is going on in the other direction- in this case, what is George looking at. Hopefully we can find a handful more album covers that we can flip like this.)

Head slowly submerges
Cut to
-Luke's eyes just before they go underwater, bubbles, and then stillness, until, facing away from camera, Luke emerges from the pool fully clothed and heads off into the woods. (Shot to be filmed in reverse, with fully clothed Luke walking backwards and dipping into the pool.)

Cut to
-Woods shots: at first excited about the journey, then growing more and more frustrated by lack of untouched nature.
-Shot of Luke on old abandoned roads, grass growing up through concrete.
-Luke watching a plane fly overhead

Cut to
-Luke emerging from Marin Headlands to see the Golden Gate Bridge, truly admiring it's beauty, while struggling to understand where the rest of the woods are. The naked earth is no more.

Cut to
-HOOK: Luke partying out of the sunroof of the car, flying across the bridge

Cut to - VERSE 2
.....to be continued

Other shots-
Balloon shots on beach, marina
Luke walking down Lombard, jump cuts to speed up travel

It's not a porno, but it's good

I highly highly recommend Freebie and the Bean.

Fast paced, really funny, great action, and two great actors at the helm looking like they're having a lot of fun. The feel of the movie is so unique, it still feels fresh after 40 years.

About Preparing for a reality

To lighten the mood of the earlier post, here's a great example of trying to figure out what the reality of your movie is going to be, what the rules are

Nicolas Cage has revealed that the best research he's ever done for a part involved getting very drunk in Ireland. Cage went to Dublin for a two-week drinking binge for his role in Leaving Las Vegas (1995). The actor who played a Irish alcoholic in the movie, drank a 'ferocious' amount of Guinness and got a pal to videotape him under the influence so he could study the footage later. The star who won an Oscar in 1996 for his part in the movie, admitted that it was being away from home that gave him his drinking freedom. He says, "That's the beauty of staying in a hotel; you can drink and drink until you fall over, and no one need see you. I must admit, it was one of the most enjoyable pieces of research I've ever had to do for a part."

Reality and Rules

A quote from Todd Phillips about the Hangover, taken way out of context

"I'd love to say the movie is very real-feeling, and everything in the movie is real, and I love comedies that are real"

It's incredibly important to create a reality in any story. Like you mentioned about Dumb and Dumber deleted scenes, they felt off because they ruined the truth and reality of the character. He wasn't playing by his own rules any more, and it didn't work.

Think about in your own daily life, what rules you follow, how you talk. I got in some trouble today for making a comment about Pakistanis, but within my set of rules, and reality, the comment was okay. That's why some comedians are so successful. They have a different set of boundaries, but they absolutely have boundaries, and a reality that they exist in, where certain jokes work, and others don't.

It's what makes collaborating with others so difficult and so rewarding- we have difficulty following someone else's reality and rules, but at the same time we can create a mutual set that governs the ideas of both of us. The same way that a solo album sounds different from a band's album, so does branding allow for something to be a part of one group and not the other.

I think about BRM- the site had certain rules. While we maybe outright said them, we all felt at times that things that were contributed by ourselves and others were maybe pushing the limits, or even totally out of bounds. A lot of times we need to see that to understand what it looks like. To quote poorly the Supreme Court, "I know porn when I see it."

So for a movie to be successful, engaging, etc., at it's very core, it has to depict a real world. It shouldn't be the world that the viewer lives in, it shouldn't be the world that the writer lives in (because that's too easy) but it needs to have a reality, and a set of rules.

If two guys are going to drive across the country, they need to have a way of paying for it. It allows for the audience to reflect upon themselves, and ask, "could I do something like this?" It's a huge part about why Batman and Iron Man are so successful, and mostly likely why they changed the new Spiderman to have him build his webshooters. It creates something that is much more accessible.

Reading this again, it all seems pretty common sense, but sometimes it's good to write it out loud. I'm amazed by how much stuff I learned in college was right on the surface- anyone could grab it, the professor just did it a little better than the next guy.

At the end of One Way Ticket, the movie fails if we have not created a reality where the psychiatrist kills herself.

In Annisquam 2, ghost pirate zombies will not work unless they come from a real place, and have rules that they too have to obey - this leads to the whole outbreak debate, and the fast/slow zombie stuff, and you realize how important these little things are before you can progress with the story. This is also why the Avengers movie has had about a 5 hour prologue when you combine all the other Marvel movies that have come before it- they have spent an incredible amount of time/money/effort to create a world where all of these mutations and superheroes, gods and humans and monsters, can coexist. I don't have high hopes for The Avengers, but it is damn impressive that it's being made.

The end - I am currently considering taking a job that may make me hate things that I used to love, and I wanted to think about anything else for a moment - the end

Water

Final shot should be Sammy attempting to walk on the water himself and splashing in "say to you right noooooooooowwwwww"/splash

Maybe concept is seeing so much about Vegas, and then all he wants to do in Vegas is all the stuff he's seen in movies - reenact famous shots/moments instead of discover Vegas for himself

First verse should be Young Sammy, first hook is grown up Sammy

Definitely need some shots on the airplane of sammy watching vegas movies on his ipad, view of the strip as hes flying in

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Casino
The Hangover
Leaving Las Vegas
Rain Man
Ocean's 11/13
Swingers
Go
Very Bad Things
What happens in Vegas (one of us will have to take the bullet and watch this for research purposes- maybe Kayla?)
Godfather Part 2
21
Showgirls
Bugsy
Austin Powers
Honeymoon in Vegas
Honey I Blew up the Kid (kid plays the Hard Rock Guitar)
Con Air (plane smashes the Hard Rock Guitar, but misses the Kid)

And I think the third Resident Evil had some vegas stuff in it

While I sit here twisting my moustache...

I've been reading a lot of articles about

-the difficulty in growing up.

http://news.yahoo.com/retreat-aims-young-mens-failure-launch-183924168.html

-and the "worthlessness" of higher education

http://techcrunch.com/2011/11/12/10-things-entrepreneurs-dont-learn-in-college/

Real talk stuff. There are definitely a lot of people out there who are just as scared shitless about the world as I am. And I think that's okay.

More Transforming

Why did the decepticons shoot down sentinel if they he had just switched sides?
The whole idea of adding a new bad guy, who also flew to earth by accident, seems so ridiculous. I mean seriously, The cube, the matrix and the sentinel ship all crashed into earth?
And why would these 10000 ton robots want 150 pound humans to do their heavy lifting? Why did those robots wake up on the moon? There were that many decepticons the whole time? Did they not hear Megatrons call in the 1st and 2nd one?

If anyone was going to be a turncoat, couldn't it have been one of the regulars? even if it had been sideswipe aka the one that no one know but says, "damn i'm good!" in the first one, at least it would have had some more dramatic weight.

This reminds me of Spiderman 3, they added two new bad guys (sandman/venom: soundwave/sentinel) but didnt really give them a full plot. Both sandman and shockwave have cool powers, but don't ever do anything to move the story along. Shockwave can turn into a 2 mile long tentacle of destruction, eat a whole building and he's not the leader? also you see him be badass in the 1st 20 mins, then he's gone til the end fight. Sentinel is this genius robot, and his big plan is to switch sides and reveal himself as a traitor in front of Sam and Ironhide? Why wouldn't he kill someone important like optimus?

So many wasted scenes. Why did we need sam looking for a job that he never even works?

Transformers 3: A Reflection

to be edited later into an actual thought

This movie is both perfect and ill suited for alcohol

Action Scenes never start or end - great trailer shots, but no actual storytelling

Good actual story- great moments slow burn

Substitution of less racist stereotypes

Overreliance on grand entrances
Audience sits and waits for the deus ex machina
which means transformers are just waiting on the sidelines, hoping to get tagged in
megatron sitting on a dumpster like a hobo, moping, until some chick calls him a bitch
Optimus prime, with a sword and an axe, can't cut himself out of some cables

And although towing your extra weapons is cool, you should really try to hang on to them better

Why does a decepticon spaceship have a human-sized manhole opening to get in or out of it

Decepticons around the world- vs. 9 autobots? just hunt those autobots down-
Have everyone in chicago
And if there are only 9 of them, shouldn't they always stay together instead of constantly getting split up

And the reasons for splitting up are so strange- why do the Primes have to drive out to Africa to have a conversation

all of a sudden the autobots are being held hostage, when before they were slitting throats. this is war, take no prisoners

And how, if Megatron doesn't fly anymore, how does he get back to America

The spaceships that we have never seen before are suddenly over Chicago

Much more tolerable the second time around

worth seeing just for the 3d squirrel suits

Every funny character had one or two really funny jokes, and then a whole bunch of clunkers- also seemed like many times they would just keep talking until someone cut them off - the editor, another character

Strange geography, a quick start to a fight in the middle east turns into Chernobyl with no extra title card

These movies are too expensive for their own good
Reusing shots from The island

While seeing the autobots in half transformed mode was cool, it seems like a cheap way to finish the scene

Michael bay really needs to make r rated movies- and I think he's been done with this series for a while now. I worry that he may also be done as a filmmaker, but so many scenes in this were really strong, that I imagine he's just itching for something new. It's unfortunate that he doesn't do the Christopher Nolan Batman/other movie schedule

Does Shockwave know that Sam is in the tower and needs to kill him once and for all, or is he just interested in killing a few more people- why does he need to take that building down?

And if you're going to use people as slaves, maybe don't just shoot at them randomly

Somewhere between this and war of the worlds is a really good alien invasion movie in terms of tone and intelligence

Little bits are great though
glorious box, bugs on megatrons face, and his scarf,

Addition of a ferrari is great, but does he really have to drive behind a camaro?

The autobots decided to start fighting dirty- after dropping their guns in a mexican standoff, the eventually just pick them up and shoot the guys anyway

I think you need to take a little out of the battle at the end and put it in the middle somewhere- maybe the building getting destroyed could be earlier- this movie really felt backloaded,

Gimme transformers in the snow

I don't know if I'm looking forward to Transformers 4, due to the constraints that whoever makes it will be under

And shit, theres no need to keep dropping off Sam and his girlfriend in the middle of every fight- have someone fly them out of the city real quick and then get back to work

Why do you hit the ground in Chernobyl and then start scrambling to put on your hazard suits

And why didnt Ken Jeong start blasting at Lazerbeak once he pulled out his straps

glad to see that the bad guy has learned the intricacies of alien technology- just smack it and it should boot right up
